LAWG 2022 Encampment
On the 16th of July, over 70 Cadets from all over the state of Louisiana and two from Texas made their way to Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi Mississippi for what would be the hardest nine days of their young lives. For many young cadets this was their first and longest time away from home.
The 2022 Louisiana Wing Encampment was ran by a strategically picked and highly motivated group of Cadets ranging from a Cadet Technical Sergeant all the way up to a Cadet Lieutenant Colonel.
Lafayette composite squadron sent a total of thirteen (13) Cadets; eight of which attended as students, one an Advanced Training Flight student, and four on the staff Cadre.
Throughout the week cadets learned about different aspects of military life and a career in the Air Force. From touring the base’s indoor shooting range, flying in a 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron "Hurricane Hunters" C-130, climbing the control tower, to seeing military working dogs in action. From completing an obstacle course with their flight, all the way to the simple things such as shining boots, making beds, and eating in the dining hall with their flight, it is safe to say the blood, sweat and tears were well worth it. Every cadet both new and old will look back on this wonderful experience for many years to come.
On July 24th, the last day, all Cadets marched past their parents and on stage in freshly ironed dress blues to accomplish what they had spent so long working and preparing for.
Through tireless motivation and morale, all cadets were able to find their inner warrior spirit and accomplish what at the beginning they thought they couldn't do.
All four basic flights, Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta, used teamwork and the will-to-succeed to accomplish their mission and walk away with new friends, a drive to serve those around them, and shinier boots than ever!
